The Ultimate Back-to-School Guide for Busy Parents (2026 Edition)
There is something about back-to-school season that always feels like a fresh start. New backpacks, freshly sharpened pencils, new routines - and about a million things for parents to remember.
This year, back-to-school feels especially exciting in our house as we get ready to send one of our girls off to kindergarten. And while I love all of the fun parts of getting ready for a new school year, I also know how quickly the schedules, paperwork, lunches, activities and everyday chaos can start to pile up.
So when I started working on The Nest Collective's Back-to-School Collection, I wanted to create things that weren't just cute for the first day of school. I wanted products that would actually make the transition back into a routine a little easier.

Getting Ready for the First Day
Of course, we have to start with the fun stuff.
The first day of school is one of those milestones I always want to document, which is why First Day of School Signs were an obvious addition to the collection. They're an easy way to capture all of those little details that change so quickly from year to year - and get that classic first-day photo before everyone runs out the door.
But beyond the photo, I think one of the best things you can do before school starts is simply get as much ready ahead of time as possible.
Label the water bottles. Find the lunchboxes. Make sure the backpack actually fits. Put the extra clothes in a labeled bag. Figure out where all of the school things are going to live when they come home every afternoon.
Those tiny things make such a difference when the first morning finally arrives.

One of my biggest goals this year is to have a designated place for school things instead of letting backpacks, papers and shoes slowly take over the house.
It doesn't have to be an elaborate mudroom system. A few hooks, a basket for shoes and a designated spot for school papers can make a huge difference.

The first week of school always feels like such a big milestone - especially when your kids are little. Between the first-day photos, new routines and all of the emotions that come with a new school year, there are so many little details I know I'll want to remember someday.

A Few Things I'm Reminding Myself Before School Starts
As much as I love a new system, a cute planner and a freshly organized backpack station, I also know the beginning of the school year can be a lot- especially for little kids.
They are learning a new classroom, new teachers, new expectations and an entirely new routine.
So along with getting everything organized, I'm also trying to remember:
Give everyone a little extra time in the morning.
Keep the first few weeks as simple as possible.
Expect them to be exhausted after school.
Don't panic if the perfect routine doesn't work immediately.
And remember that we can always adjust as we go.
Back-to-school organization isn't about creating a perfect routine. It's about putting a few systems in place that make everyday life just a little bit easier.
