Something Blue: Hosting My Sister’s Bridal Shower
Last year, when it came time to celebrate my sister’s upcoming wedding, I knew I wanted to host a shower that felt beautiful, thoughtful, and a little bit different. We chose Fireside in Sherborn, MA for its cozy yet elevated setting and built the day around a classic and calming theme: Something Blue.
From the moment guests walked in, they were greeted with soft blue florals, delicate signage, and personalized details that made the space feel intimate and meaningful. The welcome sign set the tone with blue botanical illustrations and elegant script- simple, chic, and just the right amount of feminine.
One of my favorite details from the day? We skipped opening presents and created a flower bar instead. Guests were invited to build their own bouquets by choosing from focal blooms, accent flowers, and greenery. The flower bar was not only beautiful to look at, but it also gave everyone a fun, hands-on activity (and a gorgeous take-home favor). Each bouquet was arranged in a mason jar tied with a custom tag from the future Mr. & Mrs.
To keep the day feeling special without feeling stuffy, we set up a few interactive stations:
• A Date Night Tip Jar, where guests could share their best ideas for the couple’s future
• A Cards & Gifts station with hand-lettered signage
• Tables dressed with fresh hydrangeas and wildflowers in glass jars
• A simple but stunning dessert table featuring a greenery-inspired cake by Muffin House and soft taper candles
The entire afternoon felt relaxed but elevated, and Fireside provided the perfect backdrop with its warm, inviting interior and exceptional service. The Something Blue theme came to life through thoughtful details, calming colors, and a room full of people who love the bride.
Looking back a year later, it’s still one of my favorite celebrations to have planned. It was such a special day to gather everyone together and celebrate the bride before the wedding festivities began.
If you're planning a shower, my biggest piece of advice is to lean into your theme, simplify where you can, and include interactive elements that make guests feel part of the celebration. The result is a day that feels both beautiful and memorable- for the bride and everyone who comes to celebrate her.
